This Monday morning, Apple announced in its press release another record-breaking sales figure. iPhone 5 was recently rolled out in China on December 14. In just 3 days, over the weekend it sold more than two million devices.
When the new iPhone 5 was launched in nine countries initially, on 21st September this year, the first weekend sales were over 5 million. Nine countries, namely United States, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and United Kingdom -> 5 million; One country, China -> 2 Million. After comparing both the figures, you can easily say that China is a very significant market for Apple. This figure sounds even more impressive when you know that the device is not available on China Mobile – Largest carrier of the country.
As the company promised on the launch day of iPhone 5, the device will be available in over 100 countries by the end of December, 2012. This marks the fastest iPhone roll-out ever.
“Customer response to iPhone 5 in China has been incredible, setting a new record with the best first weekend sales ever in China. It is a very important market for us and customers there cannot wait to get their hands on Apple products.” – Tim Cook, CEO Apple Inc.
Although, mentioning the terrible iOS 6 Maps app in the 200 new features, in press release sounds a little amusing to me. Especially after the Australia Police’s statements, who suggested the citizens not to use iOS Maps to navigate. This happened when the Police rescued half-a-dozen people, who were trying to find their way to a city, but ended up in wilderness of a national park. It is just a part of the Story, the amazing iOS Maps page on Tumblr will show you the insights.
Nonetheless, it is indeed an impressive smartphone with amazing features, but still not the best smartphone in the World.
The iPhone 5 will be launched in 20 more countries on December 21. So, if it’s not launched in your country yet… You might get lucky on December 21.

Apple also launched iPad Mini and fourth-generation iPad with Retina display on Friday, December 7 in China. The first weekend sales figures were not disclosed. A big question-mark stands there.
